Keemala Famous for its distinctive, fantasy-inspired architecture and immersion in nature, it stands out significantly from traditional beachside resorts.
1. Architecture Inspired by Mythical Clans
The entire resort’s design is a conceptual homage to four fictitious clans of ancient Phuket settlers. Each villa category represents a different clan’s philosophy, lifestyle, and architectural style:
- Clay Pool Cottages (The ‘Pa-ta-pea’ Clan): These villas represent the earth clan, featuring dirt walls, thatched roofs, and a grounded layout. They reflect a belief in a strong connection to the earth and agriculture.
- Tent Pool Villas (The ‘Khon-Jorn’ Clan): Representing the wanderer clan of foragers and performers, these villas feature canvas roofs and a design inspired by semi-permanent, nomadic structures, accented by wildlife-inspired interiors.
- Tree Pool Houses (The ‘We-ha’ Clan): Inspired by the sky clan who built their homes elevated off the ground to achieve better creativity and liberty. These unique two-story villas are suspended from the trees and feature hanging furniture.
- Bird’s Nest Pool Villas (The ‘Rung-Nok’ Clan): Representing the elite philosopher and artist clan, these iconic villas feature an external woven mesh framework that mimics a giant bird’s nest perched on the hillside, offering sweeping views of the rainforest and ocean.
2. Universal Private Pools and Elevated Typography
Unlike resorts where private plunge pools are reserved only for top-tier suites, every single one of the 38 villas has its own private pool. Because the property is built directly into a steep rainforest hillside, the villas are terraced vertically. This layout ensures maximum privacy and panoramic views of the Kamala village and the Andaman Sea, while keeping the natural canopy completely intact.
3. Holistic Wellness and the Mala Spa
Wellness is a core element of the resort’s philosophy, centered around the Mala Spa. The resort specializes in holistic living and alternative therapies:
- Traditional and Modern Therapies: The spa offers traditional Thai treatments alongside specialized holistic therapies like sound healing, raindrop therapy, reflexology, and craniosacral therapy.
- Visiting Practitioners: The resort regularly hosts globally recognized wellness practitioners, including traditional Chinese medicine doctors, energy healers, and yoga masters, to provide customized guest consultations.
- Anti-Aging and Detox: Guests can opt for structured wellness retreats ranging from purification to rejuvenation, supported by dedicated wellness menus.
4. “Purist” Eco-Philosophy and Ethical Sanctuary
The resort is deeply committed to environmental sustainability and animal welfare:
- Ethical Animal Sanctuary: The property operates an on-site mini-sanctuary for rescued animals, including water buffaloes, goats, ducks, and chickens saved from slaughterhouses or abusive conditions.
- Zero Plastic and Greywater Management: Single-use plastics are banned across the property. Water is treated and recycled on-site for irrigation, and chemical pesticides are entirely forbidden in the gardens.
- Our Own Organic Farm: A substantial portion of the herbs, vegetables, and mushrooms used in the resort’s kitchen is grown directly on-site in their extensive organic farm, supporting a true seed-to-table dining experience.
